Thank you to everybody who came to our workshops and dance on Sunday. It was a fabulous day and it was good to see so many of you there. Special thanks are also due to Dan and Gem for giving the wonderful workshops, and to our army of bakers and volunteers without whom the day wouldn’t have been half as good.
Thank you!
Booking closed to follows at the workshops
In order to keep the numbers fairly even we’re closing booking for follows for the workshops. If you’d like to come but haven’t booked yet, please email me at info at cambridgelindy.com and I’ll add you to the waiting list. Leads, please book so we can give some lovely follows a place!
We’ve still got lots of places for the dance though, so email me to book or register at one of our classes.
Thanks for yesterday and Strawberry Fair
Many thanks to everybody who came along and supported us and danced with us at the Buskers’ Festival yesterday! It wouldn’t have been half as good without you. We had a fabulous time.
On 6th of June the Cambridge Lindy Hoppers have been asked to take part in the Strawberry Fair parade, starting at 11:30. Not just the troupe: all of us. And they will be feeding us afterwards. How can you resist that offer? I have to let them know how many are coming, presumably so they can give out tickets for free food, so if you want to take part, drop me a line at info at cambridgelindy.com, or grab me (Caroline) at class. Hope lots of you can come!
Troupe performing at the Buskers’ Festival
The Cambridge Lindy Hoppers performance troupe will be performing at the Cambridge Buskers Festival on Saturday 9th May. We’ll be outside Great St Mary’s from 1200-1300, at St Giles from 1400-1500, and at Lion Yard from 1600-1700. Come along to support us, and don’t forget to check out all the other great acts!
Balboa Workshop – 23rd May
We’re pleased to announce a balboa workshop with Dan Guest and Gemma Barson on Saturday 23rd May. This is a great chance to learn some Balboa or brush up/develop your skills, with workshops centred around a Bal swing fundamental move, the Throw Out.
We’ll of course have an evening dance (which will be lindy-friendly) with refreshments, cake and a CLH after-party!! See the booking page for more details.

AGM tomorrow!
Don’t forget it’s the CLH AGM tomorrow at the Centre at St Pauls at 9pm. Come along and vote for a new committee! The lesson at 7:30 pm will be a mixed-level lesson. Normal service (beginners at 7:30, intermediates at 9pm) will resume next week.
Hopathon raises over £7000!
Thank you so much to everybody who participated, whether you were sponsoring someone else, getting sponsored, or just turned up to help raise cash on the night.
Our provisional total so far is a whopping £7150 but we don’t think we’ve got it all down, so if you were a sponsored dancer, please contact Ros at ros@cambridgelindy.com to tell her what your final total is and how you’re going to get the money to the trust.
Well done everyone – see you next year!
Lindy Hopathon today!
The Lindy Hopathon is on today at the Centre at St Pauls on Hills Road, raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. We’re dancing from midday to midnight with a beginners’ class at 6pm, then an afterparty until the early hours. The current schedule includes three live bands, a raffle, a photo booth, massages, a slave auction, and lots lots more, so there’s plenty to do even when your feet need a break. As far as we know the roads are all clear and the forecast is for a clear night so there shouldn’t be any travel problems either getting here or going home.
Come along and dance your socks off for a fab cause and tell all your friends to donate at our justgiving page!
New Weds block starting tonight and Speakeasy bands
Just a reminder, a new block starts at the Centre at St Pauls tonight, so if you’ve been meaning to give lindy a go, now is the perfect opportunity to take it up. The beginners’ class is at 7:30 and there will be 30 mins social dancing between beginners and intermediates.
We’re also pleased to announce our Monday band lineup for the next few months:
Feb 9th. Rob James Trio
Feb 16th. Colin Hazel
Feb 23rd. Rob James Trio
March 2nd. Better than TV (starting at 9 with 30 mins of dj’d music beforehand)
March 9th. Rob James Trio
March 16th. Colin Hazel
March 23rd Rob James Trio
March 30th. Better than TV (starting at 9 with 30 mins of dj’d music beforehand)
(All subject to alteration.)
Finally, don’t forget the hopathon this Saturday, where all three bands will be playing! Check out www.lindyhopathon.blogspot.com for more details and www.justgiving.com/lindyhopathon2009 to donate.
Tonight’s Speakeasy CANCELLED
Unfortunately we have had to cancel tonight’s Speakeasy due to the adverse weather conditions. Apologies for the short notice. Please spread the word if you know anyone who was planning to come. We currently expect that Wednesday’s class will go ahead as normal, but we will post another update if that is likely to change.
AGM: 4th March 2009
We will be holding our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 4th March at 9pm. Instead of the intermediate class we will hold just one mixed-level class at 7:30pm. If you are interested in being on the committee, please see below for details of how to stand. Otherwise, please do come along to the AGM anyway – this is your opportunity to have your say in how CLH is run.
There are 8 committee positions available: President, Treasurer, and 6 general committee positions. Specific roles for general committee members will be decided at the first meeting of the new committee, but the President and Treasurer positions must be voted on individually. If you apply for one of these positions and do not get it, don’t worry – your votes will still count towards a general committee position unless you specify otherwise. For more information about the committee and its roles, see our constitution. Both students and non-students may stand, but you should expect to be in Cambridge until early next year (i.e. not graduating this summer!), and you must be a
current CLH member.
To stand for a position, please email info -AT- cambridgelindy.com by 18th February with the following information.
- Tell us the committee position you are standing for (President,
Treasurer, or General Committee Member). - You need to be nominated and seconded by a current CLH member;
please give the names of these members when you apply. - Please write few lines about yourself. This will help members to
decide who to vote for if they do not know you personally. It need
only be a very short, informal description.
