June 4, 2011 - 10:12 pm No Comments

Instead of the annual fund-raising Spring Fair, this year St Pauls will be hosting an open day to demonstrate the various activities that go on in the Centre. The idea is still to raise funds for the Centre with the usual cake, bric-a-brac, book stalls and bouncy castle. There will also be some food available.

Will and Louise will be running a taster session to demonstrate Lindy Hop alongside the various dance and yoga activities on offer. The event runs from 11am to 1:30pm – participation from existing CLH’ers will be very welcome!

Chance to Dance this weekend

March 7, 2011 - 10:43 am No Comments

Came and join the Cambridge Lindy Hoppers this Sunday (13 March 2011) when we will be giving a demonstration to show how fantastically fun Lindy Hop is!  All are welcome to come and take part – we would really like all levels and abilities to come down and show people what it’s all about.

This will be taking place at the Sports hall at Chesterton Sports Centre on Gilbert Road, Cambridge.  Please arrive at 1pm, our slot is shortly after.   You can just turn up on the day but if you could let us know in advance if you’re available to take part that would be fantastic.

This is all part of an exciting new dance festival, inspired by the Cultural Olympiad called Chance to Dance organised by Cambridge City Council.  There will also be demonstrations and workshops in other dance styles,  see the event website for details. If you’d like to take part in the whole event participation in the workshops is free, but registration to take part is essential.  But there is no need to register just to take part in the demo.

Boat Race Boogie

February 13, 2011 - 6:05 pm 1 Comment

The Oxford and Cambridge Lindy Hoppers present the Boat Race Boogie

The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race has been an international sporting event since 1829, surely the perfect reason to dance! Not that we need one.

We’ll be spending the weekend dancing, punting, and of course, watching the race. Everyone is welcome, though you may have to to choose a side.

Saturday 26th March

11.00 – Lunch and a Lindy Bomb for those in Oxford early.

13.00-17.00 – Join us for an afternoon of dancing and watching the big event (don’t worry – they row fast so we’ll have plenty of time for dancing).

20.00-1.00 – Celebrate Oxford’s Cambridge’s victory in the race at the Boat Race Jump Session.

Sunday 27th March

12.00-17:30 – Pub lunch and punting. End your weekend with great food and dancing – we’ll be giving the losing side a chance to restore their honour with an Oxford v. Cambridge punt race.

Tickets for Cambridge dancers are half price. Come along to one of our classes for details. Everyone else, please book through the Oxford Lindy Hoppers event page:

CLH Annual General Meeting

February 9, 2011 - 12:30 am No Comments

The 2011 AGM will take place on Wednesday 23rd February at 8:30pm (after the first class).

Each year at the AGM a new committee is elected, typically consisting of some existing and some new committee members. The committee members are responsible for keeping the society running. This involves planning events, booking teachers, bands and venues, and taking care of the money, equipment, publicity, and so on. The perks of being on the committee include free entry to all CLH classes, events and workshops, and the opportunity and responsibility to guide the future direction and growth of the society.

Serving on the committee is a great way to see and drive the inner workings of CLH and give something back to the society.

If you would like to know more about serving on the committee, please speak to one of the current members of the committee. You will need to be nominated and seconded by a current CLH Society member.

If you would like to stand for the 2011/12 committee tell any of the current committee, we’ll send out details of those standing for election to the CLH members.
