Balboa Workshop Weekend with Dan Guest & Gemma Barson (17/18th March 2012)

Cambridge Lindy Hoppers are delighted to present a Balboa workshop weekend with the fantastic Dan Guest and Gemma Barson in Cambridge on Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th March 2012, accompanied by a social dance on the Saturday evening.

Teachers: Dan Guest & Gemma Barson

Dan Guest  Gemma Barson

“Based in London, Dan specialises in Afro American partner dances and vernacular Jazz from the 1920 to 1940s. He is a respected dance historian as well as a teacher and performer of the dances. His particular specialities are Lindy Hop, Balboa and Charleston.

Balboa is a less well known dance form which Dan has made a significant contribution towards popularising in the UK. He is Britian’s busiest teacher of Balboa and teaches the dance regularly in his own classes and at other events.

Dan has a relaxed and lighthearted teaching style. Being a perfectionist he emphasises lead and follow technique together with developing good basics. An excellent communicator, he has a knack for simplifying and explaining complex ideas.

Gemma was a founding member of the Cambridge Lindy Hoppers swing dance society in 2006, for whom she was also president. She was a teacher, choreographer and performer for the society, and was involved in running the first ever Cambridge Lindy Exchange. She currently performs with Jenny Thomas’ amateur girls’ group Sophisticated Ladies.

Gemma has been dancing for over 10 years and has been teaching with Dan since 2008. She has taught at various Lindy Hop and Balboa events across the UK and Europe. Her main focus is on relaxed connection and natural body movement.”
